Splinter Reeds

This weekend, Splinter Reeds is giving two performances of Sky Macklay‘s new commissioned work Choppy: Friday night at the Berkeley Art Museum, and Saturday night presented by Indexical at Wind River in Santa Cruz. We’re lucky to be able to present a performance here in Santa Cruz the night after the world premiere in Berkeley, and especially excited to record the work in such an incredible space. Please consider joining us for the performance!

Sky’s music often begins with a sonic “object,” whether a reed multiphonic or a tonal cadence, and her pieces process the disintegration of this material. This particular work, Choppy, is the result of a residency last year with Splinter Reeds at the Walden School for Young Composers in Dublin, New Hampshire, where Sky teaches. She is also a founding member of Ghost Ensemble, whom we’ve partnered with for a number of projects and concerts, ranging from performances at Pioneer Works in Brooklyn to a slate of commissioned pieces in December 2016 at the Invisible Dog. Check out her work, and hear her new piece this Saturday in Santa Cruz.
