Werner Dafeldecker was born in 1964 in Vienna and studied double bass at the Vienna Conservatory between 1982 and 1985. He has been working as a freelance musician, composer and sound artist since 1986. In 1992 he founded the ensemble Polwechsel and the label Durian Records. In the course of extensive cross-disciplinary projects and performances in the following years, his main interest was the expansion of instrument-specific playing techniques as well as the linking and manipulation of acoustic instruments by means of computer technology and other electronic formats. His works are often derived from or inspired by extra-musical influences such as architecture, science or film. In recent years he has concentrated on site-specific projects, field recordings, working with natural ambient sounds and their synthetic variants. In this context, he developed an extensive sound archive and created electroacoustic pieces for radio, film and other media works.
