The Chromelodia Project (Chris Brown, Kyle Bruckmann, Theresa Wong) performs excerpts from “Occhio,” a composition in an extended just intonation microtonal system devised by composer Harry Partch, comprised of precisely notated microtonal music with electronically generated rhythms that fuel extended improvisations. Santa Cruz musicians Polly Malan and Emily Sinclair open the evening with solo and duo compositions by Charles Dodge, Daijana Wallace, and Jessica Meyer.

The Chromelodia Project

The Chromelodia Project (Chris Brown, Kyle Bruckmann, Theresa Wong) performs excerpts from “Occhio,” a composition in an extended just intonation microtonal system devised by composer Harry Partch, comprised of precisely notated microtonal music with electronically generated rhythms that fuel extended improvisations. Interactive software written by the composer automatically generates polyrhythms using the same ratios that define the intervals played on the piano/MIDI keyboard.

Chris Brown is a composer, pianist, and electronic musician, who makes music with self-designed sonic systems that include acoustic and electroacoustic instruments, interactive software, computer networks, microtonal tunings, and improvisation for installation, ensemble, and solo settings.

Theresa Wong is a composer, cellist and vocalist active at the intersection of music, experimentation, improvisation and the synergy of multiple disciplines. Bridging sound, movement, theater and visual art, her primary interest lies in finding the potential for transformation for both the artist and receiver alike.

Composer/performer Kyle Bruckmann’s work extends from a Western classical foundation into gray areas encompassing free jazz, electronic music and post-punk rock. He performs with sfSound, Quinteto Latino, the San Francisco Contemporary Music Players, Eco Ensemble, and Splinter Reeds.
