Indexical presents an evening of audiovisual performances from multimedia duo AL-EK and computer musician Later Days.

AL-EK

AL-EK is an audiovisual collaboration that crafts bio-inspired visualizations and synchronized soundscapes. The interactions between their generative visuals and electronic compositions lead to emergent expressions through imagery, shapes, and motion rooted in physics and biology. AL-EK embraces the impermanence of modern media to inspire curious dialogue through warped perceptions and sensory provocations.

Oskar is a cross-disciplinary artscientist whose research into complex systems and artificial life informs generative visual representations to invoke new insights into the familiar. Alex shapes frequency and rhythms from diverse ingredients across the electromagnetic spectrum, leveraging electronics, algorithms, instruments, and optics.

Later Days

Based out of Santa Cruz, CA, Later Days is Wayne Jackson and the occasional drafted collaborators. His fascination with computer music and emergent systems spans four decades and has been critical to his both his artistic life and professional career. With a strong homebrew DIY aesthetic Wayne has created a wide palette of audio and visual softsynths which exploit the genetic algorithm for augmented creativity, and uses only these in performance and composition. He founded the Woodstockhausen Tiny Festival of Esoteric Music in 1998 and continued to run it annually until 2003, and has been a collaborator in other experimental music events around the Santa Cruz area including Electron Salon, Without Herself, Indexical, and µHausen (2012-present).

Published albums by Later Days include “Invalid Objects - do” (Fällt, 2003), “Songs of the Watchmaker” (Scarcelight Recordings 2005), and a number of self-published computer music concept albums.
