Indexical is pleased to celebrate a double record release show with blurness and Sean Keenan (with Mark Perez). Bay Area composer Shanna Sordahl opens the evening.

blurness is Barbara Nerness’ solo project exploring fluidity of time, space, body, gender, sexuality, and consciousness. For some, consciousness is the soup between your ears. For me, it is the space between everything else, the invisible fabric of connection.

Sean Keenan is a musician based in San Francisco, CA. He is currently a PhD candidate in Cross-Cultural Musicology at UC Santa Cruz. He previously studied music at Mills College in Oakland and visual art at Columbia College in Chicago. Keenan often performs with various improvising/experimental groups, both around and outside of the Bay Area, generally playing either electric guitar or bass guitar. He also regularly performs solo or as a duo, using a mix of acoustic instruments, and altering their sounds through electronic processes. His debut solo album Delay Music utilizes field recordings processed through Max MSP and is now available through Mixed Media Recordings.

Shanna Sordahl (they/them) is a sound artist and composer based in the Bay Area. With analog and digital electronics, amplified cello, and multimedia installation as their primary mediums, Shanna uses sound to create spaces that illustrate possibilities of transformation while questioning ingrained patterns of perception. They often subvert traditional approaches to music, utilizing extended and noise-based playing techniques while drawing from studies of diverse musical traditions, empathy building practices, interactions with physical landscapes, and field recordings. With an MFA in Electronic Music and Recording Media from Mills College, Shanna has worked with a variety of choreographers, composers, and artists including Simpson/Stulberg Collaborations, Wax Poet(s), Trimpin, Wrekmeister Harmonies, Sarah Davachi, and Indira Allegra. Currently they are focusing on a body of solo cello work and perform in the duo SO AR.
