Kumi Maxson is facilitating weekly collective improvisation workshop sessions over the course of three months. Beginning March 20, Maxson will organize weekly drop-in improvisation workshops every Monday from 6–8pm. A final evening of long-form improvisations will be held on June 2 and 3, open to audience viewing and performance from any past workshop participants. These workshops will be complemented by selected readings and discussions of the liberatory political implications of improvisation. Certain weeks will also be held exclusively for POC/QTPOC. The workshops will cater to all levels of improvisational and musical experience, striving to create an accessible space for non-hierarchical participation and experimentation. From May 22 to June 1, Indexical’s space will be transformed into a site for ongoing collective music-making, community, and creativity.
