Announcing new Micro-Residency Program
Submission Deadline: November 15, 2022

Indexical is accepting proposals for a new residency program for new performance-based projects from artists based in Santa Cruz County. This program seeks to provide a platform for artists to advance their artistic careers by developing a new project or idea, and by substantially increasing the visibility of their work. This program intends to support emerging artists exploring new directions in their work, expansions of existing ideas, or collaborative projects that would benefit from extended dedicated time working in the space.

In alignment with our mission, Indexical especially seeks proposals from artists from groups or demographics that have been historically, culturally, and institutionally underrepresented in the field of experimental music and performance-based art.

Please contact [email protected] with any questions about this program.

Application form is on Google Drive.

Artists will be provided with:

  • Artistic fee of $2,500
  • Regular weekly rehearsal and workshop space for three months
  • Exclusive use of Indexical’s studio and venue space for two weeks prior to premiere performances
  • Regular curatorial support in project development, marketing, and writing about the artist’s work
  • Up to three “studio visit” mentorship sessions with accomplished artists or curators in their field
  • Technical support and facilities for two performances at Indexical’s intimate 35-seat performance space
  • Full audiovisual documentation of their final work

Artists will be evaluated by an advisory review panel on the basis of the following:

  • Eligibility based on living in Santa Cruz County and actively producing work in a performance-based discipline
  • Potential for residency to advance their artistic career
  • Work samples demonstrating the excellence of their work at their stage of career, and capacity to carry out a new project
  • Narrative written statement or video demonstrating a compelling vision for the use of their residency time and of the final performance
